Anyway, in the Scotland book, there's a recipe for Scottish Tablet, which is a type of candy (or, "sweet"). We tried that recipe, and got a pot full of browned, crumbly sugar. No good.
So I Googled more recipes (there are surprisingly few) and came up with a great set of directions HERE. Following those directions, it actually came out quite well! I think I would let it cool in a smaller pan next time, so it's not so thin, but otherwise, the instructions were great. So, without further ado, here are our pics from the experience. Sorry I didn't take a picture of the messed up batch. :)
Giving it another go... the first batch was a disaster.
Stirring as it starts to simmer...
Poured in the pan to cool.
Finished candy, wahoo!
Meridian, the book, and the chunks we get to keep at home. :)
